UPDATE - Our original hike plan to U of T Scarborough Campus is a GO! There is a possibility of some rain and the blossoms will not be at peak, but it will be a nice change from hiking on forest trails.
*** IMPORTANT INFORMATION - This is a fair-weather event and may be updated with a hike in Uxbridge instead in the event of high winds, rain, or if the blossoms have finished by then. If necessary, this post will be updated to the new location, two days prior to the event date so be sure to check back here if you are registered beforehand ***
Members, guests and non-members welcome. Pre-registration is mandatory.
Non-members are asked to contact (text or call) the hike leader before noon the day before to determine if this hike is suitable for you.
~16km, 4.5hrs; mod to fast pace (4.5 - 5km per hr) on mostly flat terrain, much of it on paved paths. This will be a there-and-back hike, starting from the bottom of Port Union Road heading west to the University of Toronto, Scarborough campus. We will follow the Waterfront and Highland Creek trails to the university grounds.
This campus is home to about 50 Sakura trees gifted to U of T Scarborough in 2005 and planted as a symbol of friendship between Japan and Ontario. Blossoms will hopefully be close to or just past peak. This will be your opportunity to have lunch, enjoy the blossoms, and take photos.
Bring ample fluids and a snack/lunch, sunscreen and bug spray. Check the weather before leaving home and dress accordingly. Washrooms and a Tim Horton’s are available to us nearby.
We will meet in the free parking lot at the bottom/south-east end of Port Union Road adjacent to the Port Union Village Common Park and the Waterfront Trail.
No dogs please.
Arrive at 9:15a.m. for 9:30am start.
