Oak Ridges Moraine Trail - End-to-End Series #12

This E2E began at the beginning of February and was slightly closer to home due to the potential for challenging winter travel and parking difficulties. We have been hiking eastward every Monday since then, and this particular hike will mark the official end of the middle and eastern sections of the trail when we reach the kiosk marking the Castleton terminus of the Oak Ridges Moraine Trail. The other eastern terminus of the Trail is in Warkworth. Either or both qualify for our E2E badge. However, this is not the end of our E2E. After this section, we will continue from the western terminus in Caledon trekking east again until we reach the end of our journey and where it began in Hollidge Tract.

ORTA MAP 11:   ~4.5-5hrs / ~15k. We’ll continue east through Northumberland Forest on a mix of forest trails, dirt roads, and about 7k of paved country roads in the beautiful countryside. Our trek through Northumberland Forest ends where Cramahe Township begins, and where we will turn south towards Castleton.

Check the weather the morning of and dress accordingly.  Bring plenty of water, snacks, and a lunch for our 20 minute break. Bug spray and sunscreen are recommended to have on hand  Poles are optional. No dogs or drop-outs.

This is a shuttle hike and will require volunteers for driving to the starting point.

Please meet by 08h45 to prepare for our shuttle(s) to the starting point.

Meeting Point: GPS 44.09951, - 77.93346. Free parking for ORTA Eastern Terminus #1 (2278 Country Rd 25, Castleton)
