Oak Ridges Moraine Trail - End-to-End Series #11

This E2E started in February and began a bit closer to home due to the potential for difficult winter travel. We are continuing to hike our way eastward every Monday, excepting holidays and the unforeseen, until we reach the eastern terminus in Castleton. After that we will restart from the western terminus in Caledon trekking east again until we reach the end of our journey and where it began in Hollidge Tract.

ORTA MAP 10/11:   ~4.5-5hrs / ~16k. The next leg of our E2E starts from the Hazel Bird Nature Reserve trail head. Following a short section of roadside walking, we will enter Northumberland County Forest and hike on natural terrain through red pine plantations which will lead us into mixed oak forest, aspen-oak-pine, and prairie communities. Expect some moderate hills. We will be crossing Highway 45 at about the half-way point as we follow our trail eastward.

Check the weather the morning of and dress accordingly. Please carry small icers with you, just in case. The pine forest sections especially retain snow and ice cover for much longer than the more open sections of forest. In the event of very wet weather or wet/muddy trail conditions, a change of dry socks, boots, and clothing for after the hike is also recommended.  Bring plenty of water, snacks, and a lunch for our 20 minute break. Poles are optional. No dogs or drop-outs.

This is a shuttle hike and will require volunteers for driving to the starting point.

Please meet by 08h45 to prepare for our shuttle(s) to the starting point.

Meeting Point: GPS 44.10718, -78.05403. Free roadside parking at McDonald Rd and Dunber Rd.
