Oak Ridges Moraine Trail - End-to-End Series #10
This E2E started in February and began a bit closer to home due to the potential for difficult winter travel. We are continuing to hike our way eastward every Monday, excepting holidays and the unforeseen, until we reach the eastern terminus in Castleton. After that we will restart from the western terminus in Caledon trekking east again until we reach the end of our journey and where it began in Hollidge Tract.
ORTA MAP 10: 5hrs+ / ~18k+. Our journey continues south from the Sackville Bridge Rd and includes what was an Indian trail, until we reach a stone house that used to be an inn when the trail became a Cobourg to Peterborough road. Our trail will then steer east for almost 8kms until we reach our destination of Hazel Bird Nature Reserve, a favourite ORTA side trail for bird lovers especially. Being the spring migration, we will slower our pace in this reserve for the chance to hear and see our feathered friends.
Expect a mix of natural trails, road allowances and a significant portion (9k+) of paved roadside walking.
Check the weather the morning of and dress accordingly. Please carry icers with you, just in case. In the event of very wet weather or wet/muddy trail conditions, a change of dry socks, boots, and clothing for after the hike is also recommended. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and a lunch for our 20 minute break. Poles are optional. No dogs or drop-outs.
This is a shuttle hike and will require volunteers for driving to the starting point.
Please meet by 08h30 to prepare for our shuttle(s) to the starting point.
Meeting Point: GPS 44.09774, -78.1613 (Hazel Bird Nature Reserve, Beavermeadow Rd E). Parking is free.
