Oak Ridges Moraine Trail - End-to-End Series #8

This E2E started in mid-winter and began a bit closer to home due to the potential for difficult winter travel. We are continuing to hike our way eastward every Monday, excepting holidays and the unforeseen, until we reach both eastern terminus’; Castleton, then Warkworth. After that we will restart from the western terminus in Caledon trekking east again until we reach the end of our journey and where it began in Hollidge Tract.

ORTA MAP 8:   4hrs / ~12k. Our hike starts from the Ganaraska Forest P2 parking lot on Boundary Rd. The creation of the Ganaraska Forest to rehabilitate the Ganaraska River watershed is one of the most successful conservation projects in Ontario. It is the largest forest on the Moraine and is managed by the Ganaraska Region CA. We will be in the forest for the duration of this hike.  Expect some moderate hills on a mix of hiking and snowmobile trails.

Check the weather the morning of and dress accordingly. Be prepared with icers AND snowshoes. In case of very wet weather and/or trail conditions, a change of dry socks, boots, and clothing for after the hike is also recommended.  Bring plenty of water and snacks. Poles are optional. No dogs or drop-outs.

This is a shuttle hike and will require volunteers for driving to the starting point.

Please meet by 09h00 to prepare for our shuttle(s) to the starting point.

NOTE:  All hikers must purchase and carry a Ganaraska Forest Day Pass ($7) or season pass($32). If you are driving, also print off parking pass for your vehicle. Purchase online: https://store.ganaraskaconservation.ca/online-store/non-motorized-use/day-passes/

Meeting Point: GPS 44.07437, -78.50298 (Ganaraska Forest Centre, 10585 Cold Spring Camp Rd, Campbellcroft)

Let me know when we meet at our shuttle spot if you will be interested in a post-hike coffee and treat at the Garden Hill Farmers Market, 3402 Ganaraska Rd. This will determine who is available to drive everyone to the start.
