Oak Ridges Moraine Trail - End-to-End Series #6
This E2E started in mid-winter and began a bit closer to home due to the potential for difficult winter travel. We are continuing to hike our way eastward every Monday, excepting holidays and the unforeseen, until we reach both eastern terminus’; Castleton, then Warkworth. After that we will restart from the western terminus in Caledon trekking east again until we reach the end of our journey and where it began in Hollidge Tract.
ORTA MAP 7: ~4hrs / ~12k. Our hike starts in Long Sault CA, the largest of the 8 conservation areas managed by the Central Lakes of Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA). Our journey will take us through hardwood forests, meadows and cedar swamps, followed by unpaved/unplowed roads used primarily by snowmobiles in the winter.
Check the weather the morning of and dress accordingly. Icers are essential and snowshoes are still recommended. The Oak Ridges Moraine has received considerable snow these past few days and rain is in the forecast for Monday morning. Bring plenty of water and snacks. Expect brief stops only. Poles are helpful. No dogs or drop-outs.
This is a shuttle hike and will require volunteers for driving to the starting point. Parking is free at both the meeting/trail end, and trail head.
Please meet by 08h45 to prepare for our shuttle(s) to the starting point.
Meeting Point: GPS 44.07161, -78.69882 (6146 Darlington Manvers Townline, Pontypool). Free unplowed roadside parking
