Oak Ridges Moraine Trail - End-to-End Series #5

We will continue to hike our way eastward every Monday, excepting holidays and the unforeseen, until we reach both eastern terminus’; Castleton, then Warkworth. After that we will restart from the western terminus in Caledon trekking east again until we reach the end of our journey and where it began in Hollidge Tract.

Due to parking constraints during the winter season especially, this group will be kept very small. I am pleased to say we are now increasing time/distance and hope to maintain this momentum going forward.

ORTA MAP 6 & 7: 5-5.5hrs / 17k+. Our hike starts in Purple Woods CA, one of 8 conservation areas managed by the Central Lakes of Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA). Known for their maple syrup demonstrations, they begin in mid-March. After a short loop, we’ll follow Coates Road, Byers Road, and Boundary Road to Long Sault CA. Most of the trek is on unopened roads and road allowances used mainly by snowmobiles during winter, mostly on weekends.

Check the weather the morning of and dress accordingly. Rain is forecasted for early next week, so conditions may be wet, slushy, and/or muddy during the hike. Bring icers and snowshoes. We’ll decide at our meeting point if we need snowshoes. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and lunch. Poles are optional. No dogs or drop-outs.

This is a shuttle hike and will require volunteers for driving to the starting point. Parking is free at both the meeting/trail end, and trail head.

Please meet by 08h45 to begin our shuttle(s) to the starting point.
