Oak Ridges Moraine Trail - End-to-End Series #3
As this E2E is starting mid-winter, our route will begin a bit closer to “my” home due to the potential for difficult winter travel. We will hike our way eastward every Monday, excepting holidays and the unforeseen, until we reach both eastern terminus’; Castleton, then Warkworth. After that we will restart from the western terminus in Caledon trekking east again until we reach the end of our journey and where it began in Hollidge Tract.
Due to parking constraints during the winter season especially, this group will be kept very small. Hike distances will be shorter to start, and increase to ~20kms as we hike towards Spring and easier hiking conditions.
ORTA MAP 5: 4-4.5 hrs / 12k. This hike will be mostly on natural and forested trails that will lead us through Secord Forest & Wildlife Area, Norton Tract, North Walker Woods and West/East Walker Woods. About 2.5K roadside walking can be expected.
Preparing for the Hike: Dress in layers appropriate to the weather. Bring ample water and snack/lunch. Depending on conditions and our progress, we may include a lunch stop. I am anticipating deep snow and trails that will be much easier to navigate with snowshoes. Please have icers on hand as well, just in case. Poles are helpful, but optional. No dogs, no drop-outs.
This is a shuttle hike and will require volunteers for driving to the starting point. Our meeting/end point is pay parking. I suggest those of us with parking passes offer to return drivers to their cars at the end of the hike and offer the others first choice to drive everyone to the start (free parking).
Please meet by 8:45 to prepare for our shuttle(s) to the starting point
Meeting Point: GPS 44.03957° N, 79.08936° W - East Walker Woods (Towers Parking Lot, Conc 7)
