Members only hike. Pre-registration mandatory.
ORTA Map 8; this is a slow hike that will include clearing branches/brush etc. from the trail; 5.5 km; 3-4 hours; slow.
The cleanup will occur on the 1.7 km section of the ORTA Bluebird Side Trail just east of Highway 35/115. For the most part, volunteers will be clearing branches/brush from the trail. Any concerns with trees or obstacles on the trail will be reported for follow-up.
There are a number of bluebird boxes on this section that are looking weathered. Nesting occurs between April to September, we may want to discuss a plan to replace the boxes after the nesting season is over. Members with experience in nesting boxes would be most welcome to provide guidance.
If there is time and interest, we may follow the ORTA trail through the tunnel that runs under the highway and inspect the trail on the east side of the highway.
What to bring: work gloves and sturdy footwear are mandatory. Bring water, snacks, and lunch (depending on timing). Please be mindful of tick safety and precautions. Gaiters are recommended. Binoculars optional.
Meet up by 9:50 am for a 10 am start.
