ORTA Map 8; 5.5km; 2 hours; This hike is for anyone who wants to learn basic tree identification skills! Target audience is tree ID beginners, but those who want to brush up on their ID skills are encouraged, as well. We’ll walk along ORTA’s Bluebird Side Trail, making frequent stops to learn how to ID some common trees you’ll see along the moraine (and beyond). Winter (believe it or not) is a great time to learn to identify trees, as you must focus on unique characteristics other than leaves. There will be a test at the end! (just kidding). This hike is also ideal for anyone wanting a more easygoing hike, with the occasional stops for nature appreciation.

Well mannered dogs allowed. Maximum 15 hikers and hike is open to non-members.

ANY SPECIAL NOTES AND WHAT HIKERS MUST OR SHOULD BRING: Please note we will walk a couple hundred meters down the side of Old Highway 35 to access the trail (light traffic only). If there’s been lots of fresh snow, consider bringing snowshoes, as this is a lightly used side trail. Dress weather appropriate. Bring water and snack. Prepare for ice, if conditions are such.

Meet up by 10:00 am for a 10:10 am start.
