Challenge Level: Moderate / Average 4km hour / Duration 3hrs/ ~10km.

Hike Description: ORTA Map 0. We will be starting the hike with 600 metres of the Bruce Trail before we hit the western terminus of the Oak Ridges Trail.  The hike takes us through woods in the Palgrave area with some small hills to navigate along the way.  We will be hiking within the Palgrave Forest and Wildlife Area which is managed by the Toronto Region Conservation Authority. Occasionally road walking will be required to stay on trail.

This hike is the first of a series that, by the end of the series, will have completed the Oak Ridges Trail End-to-End. Join just one or two of the series or join them all...

Registration is open to Public Hikers.

Preparing for the Hike: Dress in layers appropriate for the weather.  2 litres of water is still essential during the cold weather; a warm thermos with hot water, tea or other beverage is helpful for the coldest days.  Please bring icers and poles in case we encounter ice on the trail.

Directions: Meet at the Palgrave Forest Parking Lot, W side of Hwy 50, 2.2 km S of Hwy 9 or 0.5 km N of Palgrave Village. Our meeting point is at Km. 9.7 of the trail and we will then be shuttling to Km. 0 to start the trail. No dogs please!

Hiking is great fun, but it is not worth risking anyone’s life if weather or road conditions are dangerous, e.g. due to snow or ice.  Please check your email before leaving for the hike in case there has been a change or cancellation.
